Foundation Communities brings awareness and solutions to Austin’s affordable housing crisis. Since opening its doors in 1990, the local nonprofit has helped over 6,000 families and individuals find a home and a better quality of life within its 23 affordable housing communities. Over the past 25 years, Executive Director, Walter Moreau has secured subsidy financing of more than $200 million to create more than 3,500 units of service-enriched, nonprofit-owned affordable housing.

Foundation Communities is calling for community support through their Home for the Holidays, and the need is growing, with 112 households still waiting for help. The program serves families, single adults, and seniors who depend on Foundation Communities for stable housing, education support, financial coaching, and wellness resources. A contribution provides meaningful comfort during a season that can be especially stressful, offering gifts and essential items that bring relief and a sense of care to neighbors of all ages. Every sponsored household helps close the gap and ensures that no one on the list is left without support as the holidays approach.

Update - AMAZING! Together, we raised over $228,000 in holiday support for hundreds of Foundation Communities households!

With your support, Foundation Communities is able to:

  1. Provide gift cards to more than 575 Austin households at our 15 family communities in Austin so they can purchase gifts for their families, have a holiday meal, or cover basic expenses.
  2. Provide gift cards to nearly 700 households, gifts and treats to household with kids, and winter care kits to seniors at three North Texas communities.
  3. Provide gifts and meals to nearly 750 residents at seven Supportive Housing Communities for single adults in Austin, including older adults, veterans, people living with disabilities, former foster care youth, and working musicians.

AUSTIN’S BIGGEST DAY OF CHARITABLE GIVING

Austin, TX - I Live Here, I Give Here is hosting its annual “Amplify Austin”, charity marathon that lasts 24 hours. Austinites have the chance to give back to the city and make real change within the community. The “festival of giving” is a fast, fun, and easy way for anyone, even those outside of Austin, to assist nonprofits in the area with critical needs. In light of the recent Texas winter storm and the pandemic, local housing nonprofits need emergency assistance now more than ever. 

Fundraising begins March 4th at 6 p.m. and will last 24 hours.
