Realty Austin Dedicates its Tenth Habitat Home

The ceremony marked not only a major milestone for the brokerage but also for the new homeowner, Nina, who has overcome several obstacles in order to make her dreams of homeownership a reality.

“Nina [is truly] the woman of the hour,” said Yvette Flores, Realty Austin Co-Founder & Chief Culture Officer, during her remarks at the dedication ceremony. Flores went on to say that Nina is the embodiment of, “the power of perseverance and positivity” and that her journey to homeownership is an inspiration to everyone. 

And for Nina, the feeling is utterly mutual. During the dedication ceremony, she described each of the dedicated Realty Austin agents she worked alongside to build her home as her, “motivation.” Together, Nina and the Realty Austin agents braved sweltering heat, torrential rain, wind and a host of extreme weather conditions in order to complete the home.

Over the course of 15 weeks, Realty Austin agents volunteered over 1700 hours and donated $100,000 in order to complete this home on behalf of Nina and her four boys. Over the course of our ten-year partnership with Austin Habitat, the Realty Austin team has volunteered 18,500 hours — the equivalent of more than $500,000 in saved labor costs, according to Phyllis Snodgrass, Austin Habitat CEO — and given over $1 million to help more than 15 adults and 28 children find a safe and affordable place to call home. 

We’re grateful to our 2021 Realty Austin Corazón Circle, which is a group of generous agents and staff who give $1000 or more annually, for empowering us to do this work in the community and create access to housing for thousands in the Central Texas area.  We also want to thank our industry partners and friends who helped make this incredible new chapter possible for the Cavazos family, including The Leaman Team, Patten Title, Independence Title, Homeward, American Home Shield, 1836 Properties, Texas National Title.

“It definitely takes a village [to build these homes,]” Flores said, “and the stability and growth that this home is going to provide Nina with is nothing short of transformational!” Now that she can officially check “becoming a homeowner,” off her list, Nina plans to earn her nursing degree in order to further her career in medicine. “I can’t think of a better way to kick off Women’s History Month than celebrate the success and growth of this incredible woman,” said Flores, “and I couldn’t be more grateful for our agents and our sponsors for making all of this possible for Nina and her family.”
