Texas has recently become the second most visited area for wineries and vineyards in the country. Although California's Napa Valley has us beat by a long shot, Texas is getting creative and innovating wine making to shape the climate and lands of the Texas Hill Country. Most winemakers in Texas use special Mediterraneann vines and grapes that can withstand the harsh dry summers of the Lone Star State. With more than 30 wineries spread out across the hills of Austin and the surrounding counties, there are plently of places to experience and purchase the fine wines of Texas. Many of the wineries listed below offer classes, tastings and even chances to make your own wine or wine label to use as a gift or for personal use. Most locations make a nice setting for events such as meetings, parties or weddings, too!
