The data focused on eight factors: home prices, cost of living, average salary, weather, number of restaurants, number of green spaces, internet speed, and life expectancy. Austin came in at the top with all of those considerations. If you’re thinking about moving to Austin, those are eight great reasons.

Often, capital cities are thriving areas with a lot of economic and cultural value. In fact, they can be some of the best places to live in America. But they don’t all stack up the same. Each year, WalletHub ranks each capital city using 49 key indicators of affordability, economic well-being, quality of education and health, and quality of life. Austin ranked at the top of the list for 2022. Austin also ranked first as having the most restaurants per capita, so dig in, y’all!

With the Austin area growing in popularity and the suburbs north of the city center becoming home to major business hubs and factories, it’s no surprise that the surrounding zip codes are seeing an increased interest in home buyers. The 78641 zip had the second-highest number of homes that entered into contract within 90 days of going on the market in 2021, according to the data.
