Westfield Austin

Austin’s history is rich with stories of how the different areas around town developed. One of the more colorful tales includes the 1915 development of Deep Eddy and the surrounding neighborhood of Westfield. A. J. Eilers created a resort with cabins, camping, and a swimming pool. Formerly a swimming hole on the Colorado River, Eilers created what is now the oldest concrete swimming pool in Texas. To market the resort attractions such as Lorena’s Diving Horse were brought in to draw crowds to the area.

There is no longer a need for diving horses to attract people to Deep Eddy or what is now known as Westfield. The area has experienced rapid gentrification, and modest 1-story ranch homes sell for premium prices.

The majority of Westfield homes for sale were built in the 1930s and 1940s when Austin’s bungalow-style was typical. As interest in Westfield homes for sale has grown, expansions and renovations have increased the size of many homes. With an average size of over 2,500 square feet, homes tend to be either very small or quite large. Many Westfield homes for sale have been renovated with an additional story to maximize every bit of what are many times small lots. Today, 1 and 2-story Contemporary, Mid-Century and traditional homes with brick, stone, stucco and siding exteriors line the streets of Westside making the area of prime interest to buyers who are looking for property in Travis County’s 78703 zip code.

Where is Westfield Austin?

Only 3 miles from Downtown Austin, take W. 15th Street west to Enfield Road directly into the neighborhood. Westfield is bordered by Lake Austin on the west and south, Enfield Road to the North and MoPac Expressway / TX-1 Loop to the east. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is 16 miles away taking Enfield Road to E. 7th Street to Highway 71.

Things to do near Westfield

Lake Austin borders the south and west edges of the Westfield neighborhood, allowing residents easy access to Lady Bird Lake and the beginnings of Lake Austin. During Texas’ warm summers, buyers of Westfield homes for sale will also appreciate having Deep Eddy Pool in their neighborhood. Open to the community, the lap pool and wading pool are within walking distance of most homes. Splash Party Movie Nights draw a big crowd and an opportunity for neighbors to get together. Red Bud Isle Park, in the middle of Lake Austin, is another top choice for locals, whether to walk the pooch at its popular leash-free area or just to enjoy the sights along the Lake Austin waterfront. It is also a very popular park for kayakers and canoers who often pull onto the island’s shores to take a rest from paddling Lady Bird Lake. Also within the neighborhood, the Lions Municipal Golf Course makes getting in a quick game of golf after work a real possibility.

Westfield Schools

Austin ISD serves students in Westfield. Casis Elementary (K-5), O Henry Middle (6-8), and Stephen F Austin High School (9-12) are the assigned schools for this neighborhood. Buyers interested in a private education might consider The Girl’s School of Austin (K-8) only a mile and a half from most homes or Kirby Hall (PK-12) about 3 miles away.

Hi, my name is Mary Jane and I'm with Realty Austin. Today I would like to give you a tour of my personal neighborhood, my home in Central Austin called Westfield. This is an area that is often lumped together with Tarrytown and the Deep Eddy neighborhood. But basically the boundaries are if you are at Mopac you would go west on Enfield to Lake Austin. You would turn and follow Lake Austin to where it turns into Ladybird Lake at the Tom Miller Dam. And on the rest of the way till you came back to MoPac.

We're going to start our tour today at the West Enfield Park. It's a great small neighborhood park with a playground, a swimming pool that's had a major renovation and for the adults there is also a pickup game of basketball most evenings or a fitness class going on. Across the street is the end of the Johnson Trail and I challenge you to take about an eighth of a mile walk down that and come across a restored windmill.

The next stop is going to be at the Lion's Municipal Golf Course. This really is a jewel for our neighborhood. It is an 18-hole public course and it's affectionately called Muni.

As we continue our drive down Enfield to the Colorado River we come to Oyster Landing. Inside of Oyster Landing is the best cup of coffee at Mozart's Coffee Grinders and Roasters. Next door for a casual meal is Abel's on the Lake and the Hula Hut, which is Mexican food with a little bit of a Polynesian twist.

For those of you that like a little fun in the sun the next stop is definitely for you at Deep Eddy Pool and Eilers Park. It's located right on the banks of the Colorado River and has been a swimming hole since 1926 for the neighborhood. In close proximity you have the fabulous running trails all along Ladybird Lake.

For those with little ones there are three great neighborhood schools, Casis Elementary, O'Henry Middle School and Austin High School.

This neighborhood offers a fabulous assortment of homes. There are grand, gorgeous estates, some of which are gated, some of which have sweeping front yards with towering trees on them. There are cute cottages, and multifamily units of condominiums. Because the location is so excellent there is something for everyone's taste.

The attraction to my neighborhood is location, location, location. You're basically five minutes to downtown, five minutes to the lake and just a few minutes to many attractions such as the running trails and various restaurants.
