Tarrytown Austin

Conveniently located three miles west of Downtown Austin and the University of Texas, all Tarrytown homes for sale are located east to west from the MoPac Expressway/TX-1 Loop to Lake Austin and north to south from 35th Street to Enfield. The Austin Medical District is adjacent to the Tarrytown community, which is also serviced by two Capital Metro bus routes.

Tarrytown real estate is part of Austin ISD. Students attend Tarrytown Preschool, Casis Elementary School (K-5), O. Henry Middle school (6-8) and Austin High School (9-12), one of the oldest high schools in Austin. The Girls School of Austin and Rawson Saunders School are private schools located within the Tarrytown community, with The Isley School, St. Andrews Episcopal, St. Austin Catholic School, the Khabele School, and the Austin Jewish Academy all located within a few miles.

Tarrytown was named after Tarrytown, New York, and one of the early advertising slogans for the area was, “Where oak trees charm the eyes.” Tarrytown is located in Central West Austin. The northern border is 35th Street. The southern border is Enfield Road. On the east is Mopac, and on the west is Lake Austin. We’re just minutes to downtown, minutes to the University of Texas, and less than 30 minutes to the airport. We’re also an easy bike ride to the Ladybird Lake. The Deep Eddy neighborhood is located just south of Tarrytown, and the two neighborhoods share the same schools and amenities.

Homes started being built in Tarrytown in the late 1920s with building coming into full swing in the 1940s. House prices range from 400,000 to several million for homes on Lake Austin with waterfronts. The majority of houses sell from between 500,000 and 1.5 million. Condos are also available in Tarrytown, and they range from 200,000 to almost a million dollars. You can see all types of houses in Tarrytown, from stately four and five-bedroom homes to bungalows and cottages that were once two ones that have been remodeled and are now three bedrooms and two baths. New construction abounds in Tarrytown. We’ve got craftsman style homes, mid-century modern, and even ultra modern.

Casis the neighborhood elementary school. It has over 600 students and last year received the exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency. There’s a private school for girls called the Girls School of Austin for K through 8, and the middle school is O. Henry, located on Exposition across from the golf course, Lions Municipal. Austin High School is rich with tradition and history. It was founded in 1881, making it one of the oldest public high schools west of the Mississippi. There are two shopping centers in Tarrytown. Casis Village, where there’s a Randall’s, a Starbucks, the Tarrytown pharmacy, which has a great selection of cards and gifts, and the Tarrytown Shopping Center, where we have a post office, a liquor store, and a great coffee shop called Texenza.

Tarrytown has several neighborhood parks. Reed Park has a pool and a playground. It’s on the western part of the neighborhood. Tarrytown park is a small pocket park shaped as a triangle, and the nickname is triangle park. The Laguna Gloria Art Museum is also located in Tarrytown. Next door is the Mayfield Park and Preserve. It’s a two acre garden park with beautiful walking trails, and the home to several peacocks. Dog owners love Red Bud Isle Park. It’s a leash free area, and you can launch your kayaks there and go fishing. For year round swimming, residents love to go to Deep Eddy. It’s a spring fed pool on the shores of Lake Austin. Some of the restaurants in the Tarrytown area are over here at Oyster Landing, and they include Hula Hut, Mozart’s Coffee, Abel’s on the Lake.

Along Lake Austin Boulevard, we have Mangia’s Pizza, Magnolia Café, and Mauie’s Mexican Food. The residents of Tarrytown love their neighborhood. With its beautiful trees and great location close to everything that Austin has to offer, it’s the ideal place to live. The neighbors are friendly and the schools are great.
