For many years an unused tract of land co-owned by the University of Texas and Scott & White Hospital, South River in Wimberley, TX, was bought in 1993 by a new owner who began the development that continues today. Much envied for their wonderful river views, South River homes for sale are rare commodities on the market, given the relatively small number of homes in the development.

The picturesque Blanco River is the main draw to this small, gated community, but the town of Wimberley offers plenty of additional reasons to live here. Where is South River?

South River in Wimberley, TX, is a property development located off South River St west of RM 12 on the south bank of the Blanco River. It’s divided into a residential section and a commercial section. There are 70 lots on the property of one to two acres each; some homes occupy multiple lots. Wimberley is a 45-minute drive from both Austin and San Antonio. You’ll also find San Marcos about a 25-minute drive away. San Marcos is a small city that boasts famous outlet malls and Texas State University.

South River Amenities

The luxury homes in the small development of South River in Wimberley are highly desirable for their proximity to the Blanco River and wonderful river views. (Many are occupied by longtime Wimberley residents.)

South River Schools

Each year, Wimberley ISD spends $7,968 per each of its approximately 2,000 students for general school functions and $4,646 per student for academic programs. Wimberley schools are home to a teaching staff with significantly more experience than teachers in many other districts in the state. And Wimberley ISD students have consistently performed well across the board on TAKS state standardized tests.
