Music is such a huge part of the Austin culture that it is known as the Live Music Capital of the world!  Though you can catch live music any night of the week, music festivals are a fun option for people who like to enjoy many of their favorite bands and discover new ones all at once.  Luckily, Austin is home to some of the best music festivals in the nation.  Be sure to check out these fantastic Austin music festivals: 

Austin City Limits
For more than 10 years, Austin has been home to one of the world’s greatest music festivals -- Austin City Limits (ACL)! The annual 3-day music festival attracts thousands of festivalgoers each fall with five outdoor stages in Zilker Park filled with live music and entertainment. Whether you’re looking to discover the hottest new band or trying to score a front row spot for a once-in-a-lifetime performance by your favorite rock legend, you’re sure to have a blast at Austin City Limits.

South by Southwest (SXSW) is one of the biggest music events in the country, attracting thousands from all over the world each year. For 10 days each March, Austin transforms into a playground for all things music, film, and interactive. During this citywide event, hundreds of Austin venues and restaurants open their doors to creative up-and-comers, allowing them to perform in front of audiences who come from all around the globe. For full access, you’ll want to purchase a platinum badge or wristband, but you may not even need it with the hundreds of free shows & events that take place all over town during SXSW.

Fun Fun Fun Fest
Fun Fun Fun Fest (FFF) is an annual genre-based festival, and it is the only one of its kind. The festival features hip-hop/electronica, indie rock, punk metal, comedy, and other fun things to check out including a mechanical bull and live wrestling ring!  The festival was founded in 2006 to discover new talent in alternative genres.  Notable past acts include Spoon, Girl Talk, MGMT, The National and Weird Al Yankovic. Located at Auditorium Shores, this festival is perfect for music lovers looking for something fresh, fun and different.

Free Summer Concerts
No matter how hot it gets during the summer, Austinites are always longing for live music and the city offers plenty of chances to get your fill from June through August.  Austin radio station KGSR has been hosting Blues on the Green for more than seasons 20 seasons, providing free bi-monthly concerts Wednesdays from May-through August.  Past acts include Rhett Miller, Los Lonely Boys, and Ben Kweller   KGSR also hosts Unplugged at the Grove at the Shady Grove right around the corner, as well as Lakeside Live at Uncle Billy's. Uncle Billy's also provides space to KLBJ for their Rock the Lake concert series. Last but not least, the Hartman Foundation hosts Concerts in the Park in the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace on Saturday evenings from June through August.  As a bonus – all of these shows are free!
