Austin ISD (AISD) is one of the most highly decorated school districts in the state of Texas, and is continually praised for the quality of education its provides its students and the quality of life it offers its employees. As the fifth largest school district in the state, AISD employs a total of over 12,000 employees across the city of Austin. So if you’re looking for work near a specific neighborhood, or just want to find a neighborhood close to work where you can put down some roots, you’ll have plenty of great options when employed by AISD.
In North Austin, the three top-notch AISD high schools are: Lanier High School, McCallum High School, and Reagan High School. If you work for any of these schools, you might choose to live in Allandale, one of our favorite local North Austin neighborhoods that is just off MoPac Expressway. Allandale is a wonderful, wholesome community where you’ll be surrounded by friendly neighbors and have access to a number of fun recreational activities great for all ages. The great thing about living in this neighborhood is that you get all of the benefits of living in the suburbs, but you’re still close enough to downtown to experience it anytime you please.
Central Austin is home to Akins High School, the Ann Richards Schools for Young Women Leaders, Garza Independence, Travis High School, and Austin High School. Central Austin neighborhoods like Tarrytown and Highland Park West boast about having a small neighborhood feel, while still having all the advantages of being close to downtown. The proximity of Mopac Expressway and Lake Austin Boulevard make getting around town easy. Plus, Lake Austin is practically in your backyard!
In South Austin you’ll find two amazing high schools that are both known for their outstanding education and vibrant sports programs: Bowie High School and Crockett High School. Living in a South Austin neighborhood such as Bouldin Creek, you will have easy access to some of the best things about Austin like Lady Bird Lake or South Congress Avenue. Best of all, many of South Austin’s favorite attractions are walking distance from Bouldin Creek.
East Austin has Eastside Memorial High School and Garza Independence, both of which are local mainstays for education. When you live in the East Austin neighborhood there is a great blend of eclectic housing and Austin atmosphere that makes it truly one-of-a-kind.
