Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL Festival) is an annual multi-day music festival that takes place each fall in Austin's Zilker Park. Festivalgoers enjoy 6 days of music, food, and art set against the dazzling downtown skyline. ACL Festival brings together over 130 musical acts of all genres from country to electronic to rock. The festival features emerging artists as well as long-time music legends. Starting in 2013, the music festival was extended to two weekends in order to accomodate out-of-towners and those who miss out on a chance to get passes before they're sold out.
ACL Festival is an offshoot of the popular PBS studio concert series television program, Austin City Limits, known as the "longest running music program in the history of television." Many artists, including David Byrne, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow and The Eagles, have performed both on the television show and at the festival.
The first ever Austin City Limits music festival took place in September 2002 at Zilker Park. The event included a wide range of regional, national and international artists and included headliners such as Ryan Adams, Pat Green, and Wilco. It was a huge success, drawing 75,000 attendees.
ACL celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2011. Today it is one of the most popular music festivals in the nation, attracting approximately 450,000 attendees each year. The event has actually become so popular that tickets often sell out within a few days of being announced on the ACL website.
