North Shoal Creek & Wooten Austin

The communities of North Shoal Creek and Wooten are in the northernmost section of Central Austin, in Travis County’s 78757 zip code. Developed in the 1960s to 1980s, North Shoal Creek homes for sale average about 1,400 square feet in size. Larger by comparison, some Wooten homes for sale are almost 2,500 square feet. Both neighborhoods have 1 and 2-story homes in mid-century and traditional architectural styles. Most homes have exterior masonry finishes such as brick and stone. As with many Central Austin neighborhoods, some houses have been renovated or replaced with more contemporary styles.

Connectivity is a popular feature for this area. These two communities are only about 8 miles from Downtown Austin and are bordered by two major highways in the Austin metropolitan area: MoPac Expressway / TX-1 Loop to the west, and Highway 183 to the north and east. Both neighborhoods are well-established, with a location that many buyers find extremely attractive.

Where is North Shoal Creek & Wooten Austin TX?

To get to North Shoal Creek and Wooten from Downtown Austin, take MoPac Expressway / TX-1 Loop to the exit for W Anderson Lane/Spicewood Springs Rd. When you exit MoPac, you will be on W Anderson Ln, which is the southern border of these neighborhoods. Go north on Burnet Rd, which runs right down the middle of North Shoal Creek and Wooten.

Things to do near North Shoal Creek & Wooten

Affordability and location are two of the biggest attractions for North Shoal Creek homes for sale, as well as Wooten homes for sale. Neighbors can get together at Wooten Neighborhood Park, a greenspace adjacent to Wooten Elementary School and Redeemer Lutheran School. This lovely pocket park has a playground, and lots of space to play ball. For upscale shopping and dining, residents can travel less than 4 miles to The Domain, which has over 100 stores and restaurants. Many of Austin’s top employers are located near US-183, making both North Shoal Creek homes for sale and Wooten homes for sale convenient to area employers.

North Shoal Creek & Wooten Schools

Austin ISD serves students living in North Shoal Creek and Wooten. Pillow Elementary (K-5), Burnet Middle (6-8), and Lanier High School (9-12) are the assigned schools for North Shoal Creek. Wooten Elementary (K-5), Burnet Middle (6-8), and Anderson High School (9-12) serve residents in Wooten. Redeemer Lutheran School (PreK-8) is a private-school option in the area. School assignments vary per property address, so be sure to check with your Realty Austin agent to determine the school assignments for your property.

North Central Austin Neighborhood Videos

The North Shoal Creek and Wooten neighborhoods are located on both sides of the Burnet Road Corridor, north of Anderson Lane and south of 183. The west border of this area is Mopac or Loop One and the east border is 183. We’ll be exploring two sections today, the first being on the west side of Burnet between Burnet and Mopac.

This is called North Shoal Creek, and it includes Allandale Estates, North Town, North Shoal Creek Estates, and several other smaller sections. On the east side of Burnet between Burnet and 183 is what’s commonly known as Wooten. This includes Allandale North, Linear Terrace, Bowling Green, Wooten Park, and several other smaller pockets. Both neighborhoods are about ten minutes from downtown Austin and provide easy access to 183, Loop One, Burnet Road, and Lamar.

The west side of Burnet and the North Shoal Creek area homes feed to Pillow Elementary, Burnet Middle School, and Anderson High School. All the elementary and middle schools are centrally located within the neighborhood and are walking distance from most homes. These schools also feature great parks where you’ll see kids playing on the weekend. Homes in the area were built primarily in the 1950s and ‘60s with a section of newer homes in North Shoal Creek built in the late 1990s. The style is fairly traditional, with a lot of one-story brick homes. There is a section called North Shoal Creek Estates that does feature newer craftsman style homes. Square footages start just over 1,000 square feet and go up to the upper 2,000s.

As you’re driving through the neighborhoods, you’ll see the occasional home that’s been expanded and renovated to reflect a more modern or contemporary style. Northwest Park is a great resource for North Shoal Creek and Wooten residents. It features a large pool, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, a baseball field, volleyball court, and even a fishing pier. We have great shopping options as well, from furniture to home improvement, and many specialty shops in between, such as Sun & Ski Sports or Terra Toys. We have some incredible dining options here in North Shoal Creek. On Anderson Lane, there’s Hopdoddy Burger Bar, there’s Cover Three, which is a great sports bar, The Goodnight, which features bowling, there’s Bartlett’s, which is more upscale dining, and there’s great sushi at Mikado, just north on Burnet.

North Shoal Creek and Wooten are some of the last neighborhoods centrally located in Austin that are still affordable. We’re just north of the very popular Allandale and Crestview neighborhoods, but offer great homes at a fraction of the price. The best part about living here is that you have everything you need within the neighborhood, from coffee shops to shopping, movies, bowling, bars, and dining. You have your library and parks.
