Leander Real Estate

Established in 1882 as a small railway town named after Leander “Catfish” Brown, Leander is now the 37th fastest growing city in the United States and the 4th fastest growing in Texas. With only about 7,000 residents in the year 2000, the population of Leander has rapidly grown to over 30,000 residents. The influx of newcomers can be explained by three critical assets that Leander has going for it; land, transportation and employment.

In the past decade, Texas has drawn business and people from all over the country. As Austin has grown, so has the entire metropolitan area. Much of Austin’s growth has spread northward along the I-35 corridor and major roadways such as MoPac Expressway and Hwy 183. New developments first grew to Cedar Park and then on to Leander about 25 miles away from the heart of Downtown Austin. Major highways and the employment centers that nestle along them allow growth to extend outward, and where businesses develop, rooftops follow. Leander has a lot of available land, and that has drawn developers to the area in droves. What was a sleepy little village has become a residential mecca.

Leander is now home to master-planned communities that offer buyers amenities that most small neighborhoods cannot provide. The lure to move away from the city is strong. Cheaper housing and competitive amenity packages are the trade-offs for a longer commute. In the case of Leander, many of Austin’s technology firms and medical facilities have relocated north of the city so that, along with connector roads and the Capital MetroRail Red Line, make this area have great appeal to buyers looking to get the most home for their money.

Located just north of Cedar Park, Leander is in Williamson and Travis County’s 78641 zip code. Buyers of Leander homes for sale will find a large variety to choose from including starter homes, move-up neighborhoods, rural properties and executive homes in gated communities. The average home size in Leander is over 2,700 square feet, and the average build date is 2011. Buyers searching in the Leander area may want to look at Crystal Falls homes for sale, a 5,000-acre master-planned golf community with homes in a variety of price points.

Leander offers residents year-round events and activities including outdoor facilities at Devine Lake Regional Park, a 25-acre lake for paddling, fishing, and wildlife observation. Residents love visiting the playscapes, picnic areas and 46 acres of green space. Bledsoe Park offers several kinds of sports courts on its 16-acre playground with pool, spray pad, barbecue grills, and amphitheater. The Sarita Valley Greenbelt is a 6-mile, multi-use trail system giving buyers of Leander homes for sale plenty of opportunity to get some exercise outside of the gym.

Leander residents enjoy excellent shopping and dining in nearby Round Rock and Cedar Park. HEB Plus! grocery store is near the center of town on Hwy 183. Lakeline Mall in Cedar Park is 10 miles away from most homes and has over 150 retailers, restaurants, and an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Round Rock Premium Outlets are another great option for shopping and only 14 miles away via Ranch to Market Rd 2243.

Leander Schools

As one of the fastest-growing school districts in the state, Leander ISD, ranks with the best in the area with about 40 campuses across the district. Many schools are within a few blocks of master-planned communities or just a few miles from most other homes. Leander schools include Block House (K-5), Whitestone (K-5) and Jim Plain (K-5) Elementary Schools, Knox Wiley (6-8) and Leander (6-8) Middle School, and Leander and Rouse High School (9-12), among others. Private school options include Founders Classical Academy (K-12), a tuition-free charter school, just 2 miles north of Downtown Leander and Harbor Christian School about 5 miles north of Leander.
