Jonestown TX Real Estate

Just above Hudson Bend, where the Colorado River flows northward above Lake Travis, the small community of Jonestown sits on the west bank of Sandy Creek Arm also referred to as Lake Sandy. Established in the 1930s by Emmett and Warren Jones, the town is located on FM 1431 in northern Travis County’s 78645 zip code.

Known as the “Gateway to the Hill Country,” Jonestown began as a lake resort community with the groundbreaking of the Mansfield Dam in 1941, which raised the river’s height and filled Lake Travis. A haven for weekend fisherman and boaters, the shoreline soon became dotted with summer homes and cabins. Roads at that time were rough and winding, and the area was too far away for a daily 34-mile commute into Downtown Austin making the area ideal for second homes but too remote for primary residences.

The internet, Austin’s flexible work life, and area employers in Cedar Park and along Austin’s tech corridor make living in Jonestown a new reality. Development of Jonestown has seen the replacement of many of the weekend cabins with renovated waterfront estates and new custom homes. You can find Jonestown homes for sale in neighborhoods like Fawn Hill, Grandview Terrace, Gregg Point, Jonestown Hills, Northshore, Panoramic Hill, The Bluffs, The Hollows and many more. This once “country” lifestyle is now a bit less rural and a lot more convenient to Austin and its surrounding suburbs.

Most of Jonestown was built between 1999 and 2016, and many of the larger homes feature magnificent panoramic views overlooking the Texas Hill Country and the waters of Lake Travis and the Colorado River. These homes offer spectacular Tuscan-inspired designs in stone and stucco. Some Jonestown luxury homes have a porte-cochere, covered patio, balcony, and multi-car garages on hillside tiers covered with live oak and cedar. Jonestown is west of Cedar Park. From Downtown Austin, take TX-1 Loop to TX-183A Toll Road North, Take FM 1431 West to Jonestown.

Things to do in Jonestown TX

Many Jonestown homes for sale have pools and outdoor living areas on the property and deeded waterfront access. Northshore Marina at The Hollows, an award-winning facility, has a harbormaster, 1,600 square foot ship store, fueling station, WiFi, 196 covered boat slips on 4 docks and can accommodate boats up to 90’ in length. This facility is open to the public and even has a swimming area.

When it's time to pack a picnic, most everything residents need is available within a 10 to 12-mile drive. Lakeline Mall, Randalls grocery store, and Alamo Draft House Cinemas are all within a few miles drive. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is only 37 miles away via US-183. When medical care is needed, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is about 9 miles away.

Jonestown Schools

Lago Vista ISD and Leander ISD serve residents of Jonestown, Texas. Students who live east of Easy St. attend Leander ISD, while students west of Easy St. attend Lago Vista ISD. Younger students attend Lago Vista (K-5) and CC Mason Elementary (K-5) while Lago Vista Middle (6-8) and Running Brushy Middle (6-8) are the assigned schools for area “tweens”. Lago Vista (9-12) and Leander High School (9-12) serve the older students. Summit Christian Academy (K-12) is one private school option that is 9 miles away.
