Hays County Real Estate

Hays County, an area of 680 square miles southwest of Austin on the Edwards Plateau, has a population of over 200,000 residents.

Listed in 2017 as one of the nation’s fastest-growing large counties, Hays County offers an abundance of lifestyle choices. History

Hays County established in 1848. Named for Captain John Coffee Hays, a well-known and respected military officer of the Republic of Texas during the Mexican-American War. He was also one of the Texas Rangers. The county blossomed during the Civil War and with the arrival of the railroad in 1881. Much of the prosperity grew from agriculture and cattle.

Today, Hays County is home to industry, agriculture, business, healthcare, and education. Texas State University, in San Marcos, serves over 38,000 students in undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degree programs.

Where is Hays County?

Hays County real estate runs along Interstate 35. Beginning just south of Onion Creek, the county spreads east to Mendoza, south to San Marcos, north almost to Hammett’s Crossing, and west to the border of Blanco and Comal Counties.
