Hancock Austin

Reflecting Central Austin’s diversity of architectural styles, home sizes, and price points, the Hancock neighborhood is an area that newcomers to Austin will enjoy exploring. Located directly due north of The University of Texas at Austin campus, most Hancock homes for sale were built in the 1930s and 1940s. Some date all the way back to the 1920s in what was once considered to be the suburbs of Downtown Austin, while other new homes are infill properties built within the last few years.

The architecture of most Hancock homes for sale ranges from tiny craftsman bungalows and traditional ranches to contemporary condos. Houses average almost 2,000 square feet, and over the years, many have been renovated or expanded to take advantage of their prime area within the city. While some of these homes may look rather modest, their price point reflects the demand for this location. Exteriors include stone, brick, stucco, siding, and steel. While the finishes vary, what gives the neighborhood its cohesive feel are the lovely, shaded streets that run south of E 45th St, down to E Dean Keeton St, and between Duval St to the west and Interstate 35 to the east.

Where is Hancock Austin?

To get to Hancock, drive north out of Downtown Austin on Interstate 35 / US-290 East, staying right toward Dean Keeton St. Take Exit 236, and turn left, under the freeway, onto E 38 1/2 St. From here, the center of Hancock, explore the surrounding neighborhood.

Things to do near Hancock

Buyers considering Hancock homes for sale appreciate having St. David’s Medical Center, Hancock Public Golf Course, Eastwoods Neighborhood Park and Wading Pool, and Hancock Shopping Center all within the neighborhood. Because the UT Austin campus just blocks away, the area has a “college” feel. An HEB grocery store is also close by, where locals can make late night trips for ice cream without changing out of their slippers.

Hancock Schools

Austin ISD serves students in Hancock. Lee Elementary School (K-5), Kealing Middle School (6-8), and McCallum High School (9-12) are the assigned schools for this neighborhood. Kirby Hall (PK-12) is a preparatory school offering students a private school option, less than 3 miles from most homes.
