Some of the RRISD schools for the area are Laurel Mountain Elementary (PK-5), Canyon Vista Middle (6-8), and Westwood High School (9-12), among others. Neighborhoods near Great Hills Austin

Great Hills Neighborhood Videos

Great Hills is located just west of Highway 183, just north of Loop 360 or Capital of Texas Highway, and just north of Spicewood Springs Road. It’s about 10 to 15 minutes from downtown Austin, Ladybird Lake, and the hike and bike trail. The neighborhood was originally developed in the late 1970s. Most of the houses were built in the early to mid 1980s. Traditional style homes, typically two-story, brick, there’s some stucco. And then there is one section at the back of the neighborhood called the Dominion at Great Hills. Those homes are much newer.

They were developed or built in 1999 through 2002. Price ranges in the neighborhood range from the low to mid 300s all the way up to 650, maybe just above. There’s actually two school districts in the neighborhood. The front part of Great Hills has Austin ISD schools, Hill Elementary, Murchison Middle School, and Anderson High School, and the back portion of Great Hills actually is Round Rock ISD, and those schools are Laurel Mountain Elementary, Canyon Vista Middle School, and Westwood High School.

All are exemplary schools. The two high schools both offer the advanced placement programs as well as the international baccalaureate programs. The Great Hills neighborhood is appealing to a lot of people because of the beautiful rolling hills, the winding streets. There’s a lot of cul-de-sacs. It creates a wonderful family environment. It’s also in close proximity to a lot of Austin’s major employers. There’s a lot of green belts in the neighborhoods. Some have walking trails that neighborhood associations have created, and there’s also several smaller neighborhood parks that are sprinkled throughout the whole subdivision.

There is also a beautiful country club. Great Hills Country Club has an 18-hole golf course. It has ponds and lakes and abundant wildlife. That Country Club also offers an Olympic sized swimming pool that’s heated in the winter and tennis courts. Great Hills is also minutes away from the arboretum, Gateway Shopping Center, as well as Austin’s latest upscale shopping area called The Domain. There’s actually quite a few restaurants in the area. Some of the more notable ones are Z’Tejas which is a local Austin restaurant, as well as Manuel’s Northern Mexican Cuisine, and some of the more finer upscale dining in The Domain.

Some of the great features about this neighborhood are, of course, its beauty. The hills are gorgeous. Creates a lot of active lifestyle. People are out and about, walking and riding bikes all the time. The schools are excellent as well as it’s just minutes away from downtown.
