You don’t need to drive too far out of the city of Austin to find farms and ranches for sale. Within a thirty-minute drive from Downtown Austin, there are usually between 80 and 100 property listings in this real estate category that ranges in size from 20 acres to over 20,000 acres.

  • Size and Sustainability - How many animals can the farm or ranch accommodate? The USDA and Natural Conservation Service can provide relevant information that will help buyers know what to expect if the farm or ranch is to be self-sustaining or generate income
  • Existing Structures – what is the condition of the structures on the property? Is there suitable housing, shelter for livestock or winery equipment? Is there adequate fencing?
  • Cost/Time to Manage - Is the cost and time required in running a farm or ranch feasible for the buyer. Will they handle the property or hire someone to do it? Is there housing on site for a farm or ranch hand? Also, many farms and ranches require additional structures and equipment to run efficiently
  • Tax Benefits – Buyers of farms and ranches for sale may anticipate tax benefits. They should seek guidance from a qualified tax preparer before purchase to determine if and how much these savings might be
