The downtown metropolis of Austin, Texas, is one of the fastest growing, most coveted areas to live in the nation. With its booming industry, convenient grocery stores, bars and restaurants abound, who wouldn’t wanna live here? Come on, let’s take a closer look.
The variety of condos in downtown Austin is vast. Choose from modest to luxury, music-friendly to dog-friendly, or historic to modern. You can even choose loft life or three- and four-bedroom living. There is something for absolutely everyone here. Listen. You don’t even have to leave your condo if you don’t want to. You can hit the gym, hang by the pool, and have a service deliver groceries directly to you, and then have your friends over for dinner and sweet views at your place. Hey, wipe that drool off your face and let’s get moving. I’ve got a lot to show ya.
You can start your day off at one of the plethora of coffee shops that downtown has to offer. Amongst my favorites are Austin Java, Café Medici, and Hounds Tooth, but who knows? There are so many to choose from. Maybe you can have a new cup of joe every day. Oh, and don’t forget your breakfast taco. You can’t live in Austin, Texas, and not know where to get an amazing breakfast taco. In fact, I have two.
Living downtown gives you the option to run, walk, or roller-skate your way to work. Check this out. B-Cycles is one of the coolest public transit systems in Austin. With its convenient stations from South Congress to East Austin, all the way to North Campus, you can get anywhere you wanna go in central Austin, and get your exercise too. If, of course, between your yoga class, Pilates, barre, bench-press, and multi-mile run around Town Lake, you don’t feel like biking your way around Austin, there’s always car-sharing apps and car2go. With all these options and only so much downtown to span, you’ll rarely have to get that sweet Benz out of the garage. Save that for weekend trips to the hill country.
Speaking of transportation, most condos come with parking included. Add parking spots as you add bedrooms, for those kids coming home from college, or your friends coming to visit. Think about it. You’ll never have to worry about parking downtown on date night again, or clean out a garage. I’ll drink to that. Any excuse is a good excuse to have a drink in Austin. There are so many cocktail bars in the downtown area, that you can meet a date for killer drinks for several weeks without getting through all your options. Whoo, talk about staying hydrated. No, but seriously, let’s get back to business here.
Downtown Austin is home to some of the most successful companies in the country, including, but not limited to, Whole Foods Market, GSD&M, and, of course, Realty Austin. So in between all your cocktail dates, you can actually get some work done, too.
Oh, and you might need to eat at some point, too, which isn’t gonna be a problem. Along with fine drinks comes fine dining, and Austin really knows how to do it right when it comes to food. Nationally acclaimed restaurants are scattered all throughout the downtown area, including La Condesa, Second Street Bar and Kitchen, and Parkside, just to name a few. Oh, and by the way, you don’t have to wear your fancy pants everywhere you go downtown. The quality of food may rank amongst the highfalutin places in New York City, but the dress codes certainly aren’t the same. Downtown has an array of gourmet levels to choose from, from P. Terry’s local fast food, to Perry’s Steakhouse, you know, for when the in-laws are in town. And one more thing – restaurants in Austin are known for fresh ingredients, sustainable practices, and locally-grown fare.
Oh, the weather’s fair. Let’s head to Town Lake for some fresh air. That’s right. Mother Nature’s right under your nose when you live downtown. There are hike and bike trails that loop the lake for up to ten miles in distance. It’s perfect for running, walking, strolling with a friend – oh hey, Sonya – entertaining your pup, and of course, all this outdoor activity is only one reason why Austin is such a pet-friendly town. Trust me, Fido will thank you for finally moving from the suburbs to the city.
Of course there’s nothing better than being on the water on those hot Texas summer days. In addition to hike and bike trails, Town Lake also offers canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle-boarding, so you can stay in touch with your outdoorsy, adventurous side.
No matter what condominium you choose, you’ll be the envy of your friends back in the ‘burbs, without having to worry about whose grass is greener. When it comes to amenities, creativity, work, and recreation, downtown has it all. So ditch the mopacolypse, head from the hills, and come, be in the middle of the magic. It’s all happening right here, and it’s available right now.
