Canterbury Trails is a small neighborhood in South Austin, an area known for its peaceful neighborhoods that offer a homey feel while still being close to major Downtown Austin employers. Nearby shops offer an eclectic mix of metropolitan specialty stores and convenient, everyday staples.
Canterbury Trails is located between two parks, Bauerle Ranch Park and Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park. At Searight Park, you’ll find a wonderful space to let your dog off the leash and the perfect playing field for disc golf. You can hike on the six miles of trails, and even go on a fishing expedition off the pier. Bauerle Ranch Park is also known as the Slaughter Greenbelt, and offers a touch of greenery to the surrounding neighborhoods.Living in Canterbury Trails, you’ll be a short distance from South 1st Street, a quick and easy route to Downtown Austin. South 1st Street is a popular destination in South Austin, where you’ll have access to a wide variety of coffee shops, casual restaurants, and popular food trucks.
Where is Canterbury Trails?
Canterbury Trails is located right off Manchaca Rd, one of the main roads in South Austin. Eventually Manchaca runs into Slaughter Ln, an east-west route through the southern part of Austin. Going west, Slaughter Ln runs into South 1st Street, an easy way to reach Downtown Austin traveling north and a unique stretch of Austin in itself for shopping and eating. Getting to Downtown Austin takes 15 to 20 minutes on South 1st Street or Interstate 35, only a few minutes to the west. On Interstate 35, you can travel north to reach Round Rock in about 35 minutes or south to reach Buda in about 15 minutes.
Canterbury Trails Amenities
Canterbury Trails residents have everything they need close to home. A few minutes’ drive from Canterbury Trails on Manchaca will bring you to the local H-E-B grocery and pharmacy. Just a few miles west of South 1st Street, you can get your shopping done at the Southpark Meadows shopping center, which offers over 100 retailers, and Westgate shopping center is also a nearby option. Austin’s famous parks are in no short supply in this area–Mary Moore Searight Park is a vast green space nearby, and farther afield are McKinney Falls State Park and the beautiful Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, a place to walk among the lovely native flora of Texas.
Canterbury Trails Schools
Canterbury Trails residents send their students to schools in the Hays Consolidated Independent School District, which also serves students in Buda and Kyle. Hays CISD boasts a state-of-the-art performing arts center and specialized career centers for high schoolers. Many students at Hays CISD attend class in energy-efficient buildings. Extracurricular activities at Hays CISD high schools include award-winning band, choir, visual and theater arts, and athletic programs. Hays High School is the proud home of the 2013 state championship softball team. Students at Dahlstrom Middle School score significantly higher on standardized exams than many students in the rest of Texas. The Leader In Me program at Elm Grove Elementary integrates the well-known “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” into the curriculum.
