On the east side of Bouldin Creek, you’ll have access to South Congress, also known as SoCo, one of the popular shopping districts for vintage and boutique stores in South Austin. South 1st, another South Austin street with a wide variety of food trucks and unique shops, cuts right through the middle of the neighborhood. You can take either South 1st or South Congress across the river to Downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake, and Interstate 35 is just a couple miles east.

Bouldin Creek residents send their children to schools in the Austin Independent School District. Austin ISD recently received the largest Teacher Incentive Fund grant in the country to expand AISD REACH, the district's program to hire and retain the best principals and teachers. Austin High School has several fine arts programs, including a popular marching band, an award-winning jazz ensemble, theater groups, an orchestra, and a choir. At Travis High School, students can make use of the William B. Travis Go Center to ensure college readiness. Fulmore Middle School is a magnet school with a choice of concentrations, including the Law Magnet for International Studies and Fulmore’s Humanities. O. Henry Middle School students can get started in Austin’s music scene early, thanks to the choir and band programs. Becker Elementary offers its students a dual language program, for early Spanish fluency.

Bouldin Creek used to be considered the most southern tip of Austin in the 1920s. Now it’s just minutes from town and considered right in the heart of Austin. The name Bouldin Creek comes from the Bouldin family, who came to Austin in the 1850s and purchased a large tract of land. It wasn’t until the 1920s and ‘30s where most of the growth really began. Bouldin Creek’s boundaries are between South Congress to the east, Lamar to the West, Barton Springs Boulevard to the north, and Oltorf to the south, approximately 5 minutes from downtown and 15, 20 minutes to the airport.

Bouldin Creek offers an eclectic mix of different types of housing, from craftsman bungalows to modern, contemporary-designed homes. Houses in the area range from 700 square feet to over 4,000. There’s lots of new construction and houses that date back to the 1920s and ‘30s. There’s approximately 2,700 homes. The average days on market is very minimum.

The schools in the Bouldin Creek area include Becker Elementary, Fulmore Middle School, and high schools are split between Travis High and Austin High School. Residents choose to live in Bouldin Creek because of its close proximity to shops, restaurants, and parks and recreation. In fact, Bouldin Creek was noted as the No. 5 walkable neighborhood in all of Austin.

Some of the most notable amenities for the area include the West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt, close proximity to Town Lake and Zilker Park, Guerrero and Dawson Park, and the library is centrally located at Mary and South Fifth Street. Bouldin Creek offers many restaurants, some along the Mexican Mile, which is a mile-long stretch along South First Street that include many famous Mexican restaurants, including Polvos and El Mercado’s. Some other famous restaurants in the area include Green Pastures, which is a Victorian mansion turned restaurant. You can often find peacocks running around sprawling green grounds and tons of live oak trees. Elizabeth Café, trailers along South First and South Congress, and the most notable one, Bouldin Creek Café.
