History of Craftsman Design

This design developed out of the English Arts and Crafts movement and evolved into the American Craftsman style of the 1920s to 1940s. While servants were the primary users of kitchens in the Victorian era, today’s family does their own meal preparation. The kitchen was promoted from outbuilding to a family gathering space within the home and within view of other common rooms.
