Homes for Sale in Golf Course Communities

With Austin’s mild climate and over 220 days of sunshine each year, it is no wonder that Central Texas is a golf lover’s paradise. Add to that the beauty of Texas Hill Country and the flexible work schedules of many professionals and you have the perfect mix for a great game of golf. But why stop with the occasional game or two when you can surround yourself in the lifestyle every day of the week? Many avid golfers choose to take up residence in a golf course community where they can enjoy their sport as often as they can find time. And, with an extensive list of amenities in this type of setting, even non-golfers love a beautiful and well-conceived golf course community.

There are three types of golf course communities in Austin. They include private, semi-private, and daily-fee courses. When buyers begin to think about relocating to a golf course community, they consider the type of neighborhood as well as the property, price, and location.

Private golf courses restrict access to members and guests. Often deeded with the property, the privilege of membership is transferred at closing and remains with the property when sold. Private clubs may offer membership levels or options for fitness and swim facilities and social activities. These options are especially important to those residents who do not play golf but want access to club facilities such as a restaurant, gym or swimming pool. The amenities associated with a private golf or country club tend to add prestige to the community surrounding them.

Semi-private golf communities are very similar to private clubs except that to make fees more reasonable by extending membership privileges to those outside the community. These memberships often include additional fees or restrictions which may or may not apply to those living in the community.

Daily fee courses can be extremely well-designed and maintained. The main difference most buyers will find is that these courses only offer golfing activities and do not have extensive facilities such as clubhouses, spa-like fitness centers or swimming pools.

In addition to the kinds of golf communities, buyers also consider the types of homes or lots often found in these neighborhoods. Properties include homes with golf course access, on the green or fairway, or lots with a golf course view. There are also vacation properties, timeshares, condos, and townhomes.
