Douglas Stewart, MA, literally began his real estate career with hammer in hand so that in the year 2000 after devoting over 25 years to residential construction and remodeling, and 3 years as a business Broker, he became a licensed Texas Realtor® and a Broker in 2005. His passion for education and educating as well as attaining the highest levels of achievement possible in all his endeavors led him to attain the Real Estate Broker license which requires over 900 hours of education in real estate ethics, law, and marketing. Continuing his education, due to his passion for the Spanish language he achieved a Master’s degree in Spanish, which allows him to serve the growing Hispanic population of Texas. Possessing a critical eye for detail and having served hundreds of buyers and sellers during his career, Douglas offers exceptional expertise so that his clients can feel confident about their property investment and of his commitment to help them successfully achieve their ultimate goals. He is a firm and confident negotiator having studied the Harvard Negotiating Projects negotiation skills course work, and is always kind and respectful in his desire to reach a true “win-win” outcome for all parties in a transaction.

Douglas has devoted his career and private life to service and volunteerism and has given countless hours as an ESOL teacher and as a Board member at the Austin Waldorf School where he helped develop the High School initiative and negotiated many of the building acquisitions, relocations, and remodeling needs. He has lived in the hill country west of Austin for approximately 38 years and has developed a deep love of the land and a complete understanding of the systems and infrastructure that are required when purchasing a home or ranch in Dripping Springs, Wimberley, Blanco or Johnson City. He has also worked extensively in the Lakeway and Austin markets throughout his business career.

Douglas is equally at home in the city as in the country and has often been called a true “renaissance man” due to his many avocations which include a once active life as a performing musician, bird watcher and nature lover, hiking in the mountains of Colorado with his wife and daughters, reading and studying Spanish literature, or traveling to Latin American countries to immerse in the culture, food, and language. Practicing the piano and mandolin help him maintain a healthy balance between work and relaxation.

I initially contacted him based on an extremely well-written solicitation letter, and he replied almost instantly, even though he was visiting family out of state. We inherited Doug from an agent who moved out of state. This was about April or May of 2015. We had determined that we were going to relocate to Sun City, and didn't know anything about the area, demographics, or economics.

One of the most important tools Doug provided was a link to the Realty Austin MLS search engine. We were able to establish various filters to look for properties that met our criteria. As time went by, if we found something that was interesting, we would call Doug and he would meet us in Sun City (which we later learned is a long way from his home) and show us properties.

I can't recall how many properties Doug showed us over the past year, but it was probably more than ten. He gave us a lot of useful information and sent us the Realty Austin newsletter to help learn about Austin area real estate.

Doug was always available by email and by phone when we needed him. He showed us properties on days that he probably would have liked to be doing something with his family. We are so appreciative of his efforts on our behalf.

When we finally found the right property, he got right on the contract. We submitted our offer the same day we viewed the property, and got an acceptance within two days. He (and Rachel) were very helpful in keeping the deal on track, especially when we had some inspection issues. We are very happy about the results of his efforts there.

Doug was with us all the way to closing. We depended on him for a lot... and he came through every time. I will recommend him to everyone I know.
