Texas Memorial Stadium
Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium located in Central Austin is home to the University of Texas Longhorns. With a seating capacity of 100,119, it is largest football stadium in the state, and 5th largest in the NCAA. The stadium boast a large high-definition video scoreboard known as the “Godzillatron,” the only one of its kind in a collegiate facility.
Longhorn fans take great pride in their home stadium, enjoying pre-game celebrations outside of it hours before the game time. Some dedicated fans have even been known to camp outside of the stadium the night before a game!
Despite its large capacity, the stadium is consistently filled with Longhorn fans, cheering their team on at every game. It reached record attendance in September 2010, when 101, 437 people attended a home game against UCLA. The stadium has expanded multiple times since opening to accommodate a growing number of spectators. In 2009, over 4,500 were seats added. The university has plans to continue expansion on the stadium, which will eventually hold 112,000 fans.
In 1996, the stadium was named after the legendary coach who led the Longhorns to three national championships and several Southwest Conference titles. It also serves as a memorial to alumni who have served in American wars.
