Deep Eddy Pool
Deep Eddy Pool is a favorite Austin swimming hole located in Zilker Park at 401 Deep Eddy Ave. The man-made swimming pool is the oldest in Texas. It dates back to the Depression Era, when it was just a swimming hole in the Colorado River. In 1915, the land was purchased and the concrete pool was built. The spot later became a resort that featured cabins, camping grounds, a diving board, slides, and a zip line that ran across the pool. Today, the pool is owned and operated by the City of Austin, but the fun spirit of Deep Eddy resort lives on at the beloved pool.
Deep Eddy Pool serves a diverse group of swimmers of all ages. The pool’s natural water comes from a a 35 foot hand-dug well. Its temperature ranges from 65 to 75°F. The pool is surrounded by grassy hills and trees where pool patrons can enjoy lounging between dips. The 8 acre recreation area features amenities including a BBQ pit, a pier for fishing, picnic tables, and a play ground.
Deep Eddy is open year-round with limited hours during winter months. Events are hosted there throughout the summer and include swimming competitions and as family movie night series. Pool admission ranges from $1-$3.
