The city of Lakeway was founded in the mid 1960s on the site of a 2,700-acre ranch northwest of Austin. Just 20 miles from downtown Austin, Lakeway can be reached with a short drive west along RR 620 to Lakeway Boulevard.

Nestled in beautiful rolling hills on the shores of Lake Travis, Lakeway is surrounded by mature oak trees and incredible lake and country views. Many of the city’s winding roads are bordered by elegant, spacious homes and natural parks. And, while Lakeway has become an established community over the last four decades, it continues to grow, offering new construction and a variety of real estate choices for those looking to purchase a home or vacation property. Whether you’re interested in a new home, townhouse, or waterfront property with stunning lake views, you can find it all in Lakeway.

Lakeway is one of the most well-known communities in the Lake Travis area and is the closest to the City of Austin. Others include the City of Bee Cave, the Village of Briarcliff, Spicewood, Lakeway, Village of the Hills, Hudson Bend, River Place, Comanche Trail, Four Points, Village of Volente, and Anderson Mill.

Lakeway Demographics
Lakeway is home to approximately 14,000 demographically diverse citizens. Among the local population aged 25 years and older, close to 52% of people have a bachelor’s degree or higher, and more than 15 percent have a graduate or professional degree. Lakeway’s median household income is significantly above the state average at $81,513. This trend is also visible in the average household income of $98,386 and per capita income of $38,672.

Things to do in Lakeway
Within the city’s 10 square miles, Lakeway residents can enjoy the best that Hill Country has to offer. Lakeway’s ideal location along the shores of Lake Travis provides access to a beautiful city park with a sand beach, as well as three marinas; the Lakeway Marina, Hurst Harbor Marina and the Rough Hollow Marina and Yacht Club. Residents and visitors can enjoy boating, water sports, swimming, fishing, sailing, and windsurfing.

The city is a popular golfing destination for residents and visitors to the Austin area, and is home to several world-class golf courses. The Hills Country Club offers members access to four amazing golf courses with 36 championship holes by Nicklaus Design. These include The Hills Course, the region’s first Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, and more recently, Flintrock Falls, an 18-hole course co-designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus and his son Jack Nicklaus II. Other courses in the area include the Yaupon Golf Course, Live Oak Golf Course, and the Falconhead Golf Course.

Residents and visitors to Lakeway enjoy the outdoors at their doorstep, with many local parks and greenbelts to choose from. Lakeway City Park offers 64 acres of beautifully maintained parklands, two miles of trails and a Butterfly Garden, as well as a playscape for toddlers, a play area by the lake for school-age children, and a waterfront area where park visitors can swim during summer months. Lakeway’s other parks include Dragon Park, Canyonlands, Porpoise Park, and the Smith and Hamilton greenbelts. Households with young children or teens will also enjoy the Lakeway Skate Park and Lakeway Swim Center.

The town offers a variety of restaurants to fit any taste. Local diners can enjoy a wonderful dinner while watching the sunset at the Oasis, which is situated on a cliff with an incredible view.

Residents with a penchant for shopping will appreciate the nearby Hill Country Galleria. Just 5 minutes down the street from Lakeway, the newly constructed shopping center offers 152 acres of expansive natural beauty, a movie theatre, and nearly any kind of shopping imaginable, from Banana Republic and Ann Taylor to Circuit City and Barnes and Noble.

For those residents who like to travel or split their time between Lakeway and elsewhere, the city also boasts the Lakeway Airpark, a privately owned, not-for-profit public use airport for Lakeway residents and guests.

From year round activities that leverage the city’s natural beauty to a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options in town or a short drive away in Austin, Lakeway offers all the comforts of the city in one incredible location.

Lakeway Schools
Households with children will benefit from schools in the acclaimed Lake Travis Independent School District. Lake Travis ISD serves more than 5,500 students at its seven campuses, each of which offers state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge architecture.

Lakeway students attend Lakeway Elementary, Lake Travis Elementary School, Hudson Bend Middle School, and Lake Travis High School. Lake Travis High School serves approximately 1,621 students, and offers 180 courses and more than 50 student clubs and organizations, along with a strong athletic program covering 17 competitive sports.

Lakeway Elementary and Lake Travis High were recognized by the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) on its 2007 TBEC Honor Roll, the most prestigious award for sustained academic excellence in Texas. This is the second consecutive year that Lakeway Elementary has been named to the Honor Roll.

Lakeway Major Employers
While many Lakeway residents telecommute or drive to Round Rock, Austin, and surrounding communities for work, Lakeway is also home to more than 850 local establishments, employing more than 6,200.

According to the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce, some of the largest employers in the area include the Leander Independent School District, the recently constructed Hill Country Galleria shopping center, and technology company 3M.

Lakeway Places of worship
There are a number of places of worship in or near the Lakeway area, serving a variety of faiths and denominations. A few of those serving Lakeway residents include Emmaus Catholic Parish, Lakeway Church, Lakeway Church of Christ, Lake Travis United Methodist Church, and River in the Hills Church.

In addition to religious services, Lake Travis United Methodist Church offers one of four public Labyrinths in the Austin area. Used for prayer and meditation, the Labyrinth overlooks beautiful Hill Country and Lake Travis.
