Buda Texas Homes for Sale
Buda is a small town in Hays County about 20 minutes south of Austin off interstate 35. Many families move to homes in Buda for the highly regarded Hays ISD public schools. Others choose Buda homes because they are more affordable than in Austin.
Homes in Buda began appearing in the 1880’s, when families settled alongside the International-Great Northern Railroad, which had just been extended from Austin to San Antonio. Originally named Du Pre, TX, the name was changed to Buda after it was discovered that there was already a Du Pre, TX. The current name is derived from the Hungarian immigrants who made their homes in Buda (a new shortened version of Hungary’s capital, Budapest). Early homeowners in Buda were heavily involved in an agricultural community that was dominated by cotton production, dairy farming, and beef cattle. Presently, Buda offers a beautiful place to raise a home, full of safe & cozy neighborhoods that are only a stone’s throw from the beautiful countryside.
