AUSTIN STILL AMONG BEST ‘BANG FOR YOUR BUCK’

The Austin Business Journal continues to list Austin as #3 in the country of ‘Recession Proof’ cities, citing dropping unemployment and affordable home prices. In fact, Inman News reports that Austin is among the cities that lead their list of places where your money goes farthest. It seems that folks here enjoy relatively affordable housing and solid prospects for continued job growth.

First of all, overall home prices in the Austin area have not risen excessively, nor are they falling precipitously. Homes here are still in line with local salaries.

Secondly, new jobs continue to be created as companies move to the Austin area, and existing companies continue to expand. Jobs bring people, and those people buy houses. If you’re relocating here, there is plenty of inventory to choose from at affordable prices.

Williamson County too has been enjoying this steady pace. Chief appraiser Bill Carroll said Williamson County “hasn’t been exposed to a volatile market like a lot of the rest of the country”.

“Texas, as a whole, is one of the few economies that’s performing extremely well because of the energy and technology sectors,” says Andrew Gledhill, an economist at Moody’s Economy.com.
