Forbes.com just ranked Austin as the eighth best place in the nation for business and careers in its latest list.  This is especially significant since Austin rose from 47th place on their 2008 list.

The list considered various factors such as the overall cost of doing business and future employment growth projections.

Forbes.com estimated Austin’s projected annual job growth rate at 2.3 percent, which is the 5th fastest in the US.  Austin was also chosen because of its relatively low exposure to sub-prime mortgages.

The top 10 cities on Forbes’ Best Places for Business list were:
Raleigh, N.C.
Fort Collins, Colo.
Durham, N.C.
Fayetteville, Ark.
Lincoln, Neb.
Asheville, N.C.
Des Moines, Iowa
Austin, Texas
Boise, Idaho
Colorado Springs, Colo.
