Baby Boomers Make the Move to Austin

Forget sun cities and golfing communities, what most retirees are looking for is a lively culture. In the 1960's the leading states for retirees were Nevada, Arizona and Florida, states with big subdivisions and golfing communities. Today, the number one new place to retire is Austin, Texas. Not only is Austin the best city for young adults, it's also the city with the fastest growing boomer population in US, reports the US Census Bureau, and there's no question to why that is.
Baby boomers are attracted to Austin, Texas because it has no state income tax and very affordable housing with housing prices 15% below the national average. Another reason why baby boomers make the move to Austin is for intellectual stimulation. The University of Texas at Austin offers extended education to anyone including grandparents. And the state's largest school is actively seeking them.
Other cities baby boomers are retiring to are Raleigh, North Carolina; Boise, Idaho; and Colorado Springs, Colorado.
But none come close enough to Austin. Youth and seniors agree, that the best city in the US to move to is Austin.
It's clear to see after watching this video from ABC World News with Diane Sawyer that Austin has it all – "affordability, a chance to keep learning, and something for the soul."
