Austin Ranks 5th Among Top 10 Places to Retire

Austin, Texas: According to TopRetirements.com, Austin is one of the top 10 cities attracted to those nearing retirement. Two thirds of the 100 top positions were located in Sun Belt states with warmer climates. The list was compiled by calculating which towns had the most online visits on TopRetirements.com which reflects the cities that the site's retired user community is most interested in. College towns and warm climates dominate the list, meaning that areas with abundance of intellectual and outdoor activities are popular among the retired community.

Austin Ties for First on Forbes.com Best Economic Recovery Cities in U.S.

Austin, Texas: Forbes released a statement revealing Austin to be the best economic recovering city in the U.S. The Austin-Round Rock area tied for first with and Washington D.C. among a list of big cities on the upswing of recovery. Forbes.com used unemployment rates, real estate improvement, and production of goods and services to determine the ranking. Both Austin, Texas and Washington D.C. have low jobless rates, mostly due to their high government job generation, and healthy real estate industries.
Other Texas cities on the list included Dallas which ranked second right behind Austin, Texas, and San Antonio and Houston made the top ten.

Facebook Likely to Open 200-Person Office in Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas: Facebook may accept a $1.4 million incentive from the state of Texas to open a 200-person office in Austin, Texas. The expansion would be the California-based company's biggest outside of Palo Alto. The move is estimated to cost the social media site $3.1 million in setup and operations costs, says representatives of Gov. Rick Perry's office.
Facebook's decision to open an office in Austin overshadows Google's decision to close their 100-person office 4 months after they started operations in 2008. State officials are confident that Facebook will follow through and not bruise Austin's ego like Google did when they decided never to reopen their downtown Austin office.

Google to Choose Round Rock for High-Speed Testing

Round Rock: Google, Inc. announced interest in testing its new high-speed network in Round Rock, Texas. The California-based internet company wants to test a new broadband communications network that uses a super high-speed fiber network and has the ability to be 100 times faster than current internet service. Google is surveying residents in Rock Rock and asking them questions about their communications needs, including if they support Google testing in Round Rock, who is their service provider, what kind of connection do they have, and do they buy service packages. Surveying will continue through the end of March. Once Google reviews its reports, it will decide if Round Rock will be one of the test cites for the new ultra high-speed internet service…
