Gretchen Lynn Janzow - Bio

Gretchen Lynn came to Realty Austin after first mentoring under a local Realtor with 46 years of experience.  She recognizes the importance of mentorship as she was an educator before entering the real estate industry. Her negotiating, research, people-managing and organization skills acquired from her career in education have translated well to her 7-year thriving referral-based real estate practice.

A native Central Texan, Gretchen Lynn graduated from then Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos with a BA in anthropology and English. Because she has lived overseas as a Rotary International exchange student and as an expatriate, Gretchen became a Certified International Property Specialist, putting her international knowledge and language skills (German, Italian and learning Spanish) to work facilitating residential, light commercial and farm and ranch transactions for clients, both locally and abroad.

An environmentalist at heart, she is also an EcoBroker, making her an excellent resource for green and natural building, energy-efficient consultation, and conservation development. In 2008, she was featured as the Green Consultant on an episode of Discovery Home Channel's "Greenovate", a national home-improvement series. She has sold a range of real estate types, including luxury, farm and ranch, lots and "fixer-uppers."

A real Austinite in her interests, Gretchen loves being on Lady Bird Lake. She and her husband brew their own beer and are working on their home vineyard. As one of Austin's own local musicians, when she isn't helping clients with their real estate needs, Gretchen is playing music with one of her two current music projects, the Austin Family Jewels, a local Americana band,  or Two Bits, a jazz standards duo.

My husband already wrote a great review for this company on Yahoo, but I feel so strongly about the wonderful service we received that I feel compelled to add another review here.

My husband and I were first drawn to Realty Austin's website because we were buying a home in the north suburbs of Austin while living in Hawaii, and the pictures on this site were the best- being that we were only going to be able to fly out for 2 days to look at homes, this was incredibly important. The realtor we were assigned was Gretchen Janzow- wow, were we lucky. She took the time to show us the homes we were interested in on our limited time frame. When we found our dream house, we quickly found out that we were in a multiple offer situation. Being first time home buyers, her input and guidance was crucial in us winning the "bidding war". During this time, Gretchen didn't seem to mind contacting us well into the evening- she easily put in a 12 hour day to help us get the home we wanted.

Her help did not end there. While I'm sure Gretchen is a busy woman, especially with how amazing of a realtor she is, she truly made us feel like we were her only customers. She answered all of our questions (and believe me, I asked a TON of questions) and was easily the most accessible person we dealt with throughout the last couple months. She was extremely knowledgeable about the entire process, and was more than willing to find out anything we wanted to know. To add to this, she was extremely flexible working with our time difference- being in Hawaii meant that we often needed to call her well after the end of a typical work day. Few people would be as attentive, understanding, and pleasant being called at 9pm for work (I'm so sorry Gretchen! You are a gem!). While you might not have a 5 hour time difference to deal with, that attitude of accessibility and dedication will show in your interaction with Gretchen.

We absolutely recommend using Gretchen Janzow- not only will she help you find the perfect home for you, she will also make the complex process as easy as possible. With Gretchen, you don't have to worry about dealing with a pushy "sales person" type personality- she shows that she genuinely cares about helping her customers find a home that they will love. Gretchen is a consummate real estate professional, and just good people besides. She endured nearly eight months of searching by my husband and I, including two false starts, before we finally landed the perfect house! Her knowledge of the business and the Austin market is extensive, as is her willingness to work with you at length to understand who you are and what you need. She also shows great finesse and grace in dealing with multiple parties with various and sometimes conflicting interests. We found her to have rock-solid intuition about how scenarios were likely to turn our, as well - and when we found the right place, everyone knew it! Her network of colleagues, for instance the broker that she recommended, also seem to be trustworthy and knowledgeable.

My wife and I are relocating to Austin, and we flew out there from Hawaii to house hunt. Due to our jobs, we could only spare two days. Gretchen Janzow was able to meet up with us both days and find a house. She had an answer to every question we posed, helped us through the entire process, and never seemed like she was getting tired of our incessant questions. She was there every step of the way while we were purchasing a house in Austin from Hawaii (and Guam when I went on a work trip). I would say that the service we received was better than we could have ever hoped for, and if I were to ever buy another house in Austin, I would probably see if she was still a realtor there. Overall, a great experience, and I would suggest Gretchen and her company to anyone looking to buy a house in Austin.

We had VERY specific criteria, one of us being very persnickety. We were essentially first time home buyers browsing like mad. Then we picked some very "challenging" properties to make offers on. Gretchen, you stuck with us. I think most people in your role would have told us to jump in the lake.

The homes (yes, homes as in more than one attempt to purchase) proved to be more challenging than any of us could have ever imagined. We were most fortunate to have Gretchen working on our behalf. She was determined to get answers and help us in every way possible. Even as situations unraveled, Gretchen persisted. I think many realtors would have given up after some of the situations we encountered. After many challenges she managed to get us into a wonderful home.

In looking for a second house, I told Gretchen up front that I might not buy at all if I did not find a house that I liked and believed was a good value, and she cheerfully continued to show me houses and advise me professionally with my goals in mind. We weathered some disappointments together when we made offers and were outbid in the hot market. Eventually, through her connections, I was able to see a house the day it came on the market and I ended up buying it for a good price.
