Carla Umlauf - Bio

Carla was born and raised in Austin, Texas. She knows the history and character of this city and appreciates the diverse people who make Austin a unique place to live. She is committed to exceeding expectations and ensures her clients experience a sense of trust and satisfaction. As a result of Carla’s unparalleled service, she works almost exclusively by referral and maintains strong relationships with clients and colleagues beyond just the closing.  

Carla specializes in residential representation of buyers, sellers, builders, developers and relocation clients. She has been a consistent multi-million dollar producer since entering the real estate field and prides herself in treating others with respect while getting results for her clients. Carla gives each client her personal attention and expert advice. She is proficient in marketing, sales and negotiation, has strong communication skills, and brings a tech savvy approach to her transactions. Carla is an Accredited Buyer Representative, has achieved status with the Graduate Realtor Institute and was awarded a Super Service Award in 2010 based on recommendations from Angie’s List. Carla received her B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin in Social Work.

Carla is married to a local architect, Cass Cheesar, and together they enjoy discussing the world of architecture and design. Having collaborated with her husband’s firm on several completed projects, Carla has acquired a wealth of design and construction knowledge.  From architects and engineers to inspectors and tradesmen, Carla has an extensive network of resources and readily refers her clients who need this form of assistance while buying or selling or renovating their homes.  Carla and Cass have two energetic and creative girls, Sophie and Ella, who keep them quite busy after hours. Carla and her family regularly indulge themselves in the art, music, dance, outdoors and food culture of Austin, it is a huge part of why they live here.

Carla is actively involved at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum which houses the works of her late grandfather, Charles Umlauf.  She is a Board Member at the Umlauf Gardens and hosts an architectural lecture series which many of her clients attend.

Carla helped us find and purchase a great house in Austin. She guided us through the process, from our initial requirements to selecting a house and finally through the rather tricky home purchase transaction itself. Carla was very helpful with each phase of our purchase. She found a good balance of listening to our needs and also making her own constructive suggestions. She knows Austin's neighborhoods really well, including schools, parks, traffic, and even tax rates. She narrowed our list of potential houses down to a nice manageable size so we could focus on seeing only on the most promising homes. For example, one area of town tended to have the right "numbers" as far as price, location, and square footage, but Carla found that the layout of most of these houses would not work well for our young family. She did the ground work to find a couple of exceptions for us to look at instead of dragging us to one bad match after another.

Carla is more than just an everyday realtor. She has some architectural and construction knowledge as well, plus a sharp eye for design. She could often tell us whether the construction was going to cause problems, especially for quirky older homes. And she was very helpful in mentally arranging a home to suit or family's needs.
